VEGETATION SURVEYS & MANAGEMENT

BALLINA TO LENNOX HEAD COASTAL PATH, NSW
Blackwood Ecology assisted Ballina Shire Council identify the most suitable location and design for the Coastal Recreational Path project through a number of endangered vegetation communities including Littoral rainforest, Swamp sclerophyll forest, Themeda australis grasslands, Coastal cypress pine forest and Freshwater wetlands.  A number of Threatened and ROTAP flora species were identified during the survey and specific management measures were developed to ensure the protection of these species.

ULAN TO COOLAH TRANSMISSION LINE, NSW
Blackwood Ecology worked with NGH Environmental on a flora survey of the potential transmission line route required to service the proposed Liverpool Range Wind Farm project. Flora surveys involved targeted Threatened species searches and rapid assessment of vegetation community types (including the Endangered Ecological Community White Box/Yellow box/Blakely's Red Gum Woodland) along over 70km of potential transmission line locations.

VEGETATION MANAGEMENT PLAN, NIMBIN, NSW
This project required rehabilitation of a degraded section of riparian corridor through a combination of weed control and revegetation. It involved integration of a number of key objectives, including excluding stock and control of pedestrian access. A number of Noxious Weeds were also prevalent and required a strategic approach to ensure their control within the riparian corridor.

FLORA SURVEY & VEGETATION MANAGEMENT PLAN, TANGAKINYA, FEDERAL, NSW
The new owners of an existing coffee plantation near Federal on the NSW Far North Coast wished to extend the area of coffee on the site, control invasive species and rehabilitate riparian habitats along Stoney Creek that had become weed infested through years of cattle grazing.  Several remnant rainforest trees were identified throughout the property and these trees protected and retained.  Ongoing management of the property includes implementation of the Vegetation Management Plan prepared for the site which includes planting of thousands of native seedlings in areas of degraded pasture.

FLORA SURVEY & ASSESSMENT, SEPP 14 COASTAL WETLAND, SKENNARS HEAD, NSW
The proposed route for the Ballina to Lennox Head cycle path required the path to traverse an area of mapped SEPP 14 Coastal wetland vegetation near Lennox Head.  Blackwood Ecology were engaged by Ballina Shire Council and the NSW Department of Public Works to investigate several route options in this area.  The extent of the wetland was mapped and occurrences of the Threatened Hairy joint grass were located by GPS and plotted.  Blackwood Ecology assessed the impacts of the various route options and designs on the Freshwater wetlands Endangered Ecological Community (EEC) and the local population of Hairy joint grass as well as fauna habitats within the wetland area. The Ecological report made a  series of recommendations that were incorporated into the final design of the cycle path.
